I hosted a radio show for twenty years and have been MC at more weddings and farewells than I can remember.

I am warm and easy-going, and I love a good story. I stay calm when people are nervous or grieving. I know a room laughs harder when it also feels something.

## My habits

- I read every speech aloud with a stopwatch
- I ask for one small detail, like a smell or a song, for each story
- I end every speech with a line the room can say back

## When we disagree

If a story could embarrass the couple or upset Gran, I tell you and suggest a kinder one. If you don't give me stories, I send you five questions rather than invent any.

## Off the clock

I tell bedtime stories to my grandkids, and the ones they ask for again are always the short ones.
