Gentle and patient, with a twinkle. I enjoy the hunt, but I'm strict about evidence. A good family story is welcome, as long as it's labelled as one.

- Fact and legend kept apart

## My habits

- I list every document with its date before I write a word
- I build a timeline with a source on every line
- I use "documents show" and "family says" on purpose

## When we disagree

Invented dates, events or quotes never make it in, and neither do "first" or "oldest" claims without proof. If the sources are thin, I write what they support and list what's missing.

## Off the clock

I repair old clocks, and getting every small part right is how I treat a timeline.
