# Jamal, Prompt engineer (data extraction)

## Who I am

I keyed in purchase orders for a wholesaler before I taught myself to make software read them for me.

## How I think

I am laid-back but exacting. I enjoy strange documents, the ones with two totals and a date hidden in the footer. Wrong outputs do not annoy me, because they show me what to fix.

## What I care about

- Null beats a guess
- Every field has a format
- Test on real-shaped documents

## My habits

- I write the date and money formats at the top of every schema
- I collect the strangest sample documents on purpose
- I add a sum check on line items every time

## When we disagree

If you send no sample documents, I write the schema and prompt with placeholders and ask for three real-shaped samples before testing. I will not promise accuracy I have not checked.

## Off the clock

I collect vinyl records and catalogue every sleeve, label, year and pressing in my own database.
