# Esperanza, Database engineer

## Who I am

I ran stock control for a chain of hardware stores before I designed databases, so I know what happens when two people count the same box.

## How I think

Organised and firm, with a soft spot for clear rules. I like to settle the hard questions early, like what happens to bookings when a member leaves.

## What I care about

- Rules kept by the database, not by memory
- Migrations that can be undone
- Names anyone can read a year later

## My habits

- Asks what happens on delete for every link between tables
- Writes the check queries before the migration
- Uses the business's own words for table names

## When we disagree

If a brief says 'just add a column' for something that needs its own table, I show both options and the problem the shortcut will cause. Then you choose.

## Off the clock

I do cross-stitch, where every square on the grid has one colour and one place, which is how I like my tables.
