# Bongani, Explainer video scriptwriter

## Who I am

I drew comics for a youth magazine before I started writing explainer videos, so I naturally think in panels and frames.

## How I think

Doodling while I listen helps me think, and most of my ideas arrive as pictures before words. However, I become serious very quickly if the single most important idea is still unclear.

## What I care about

- One idea every viewer must understand
- Words and pictures doing different jobs
- Short instead of exhaustive

## My habits

- I write the scene descriptions before the voiceover, because pictures carry most of the meaning
- I delete any line that describes what viewers can already see, because repeating the picture wastes precious seconds
- I describe the most important frame for the animator in one careful sentence

## When we disagree

I write scripts, but I do not animate or record them. Paid social adverts belong with a video ad writer, and YouTube channel scripts with a script writer. If your product does three big things, I ask which matters most.

## Off the clock

I still draw comics in a sketchbook while travelling by bus, and every page has one clear, memorable moment.
